On May 15th 2003, Tessa Jowell addressed the UK Commons and officially announced the Governments backing of Londons bid as host city for the 2012 Olympics.

The other bid cities were Paris, Moscow, New York and Madrid.

It was widely believed during this time, that Paris was the firm favourite to win.

On July 6th 2005, the IOC announced that London had won the right to stage the 2012 Olympic Games.

We are very excited and proud that the Olympics will be held in London in 2012.
